As many of you know, I was fortunate enough to receive a small grant from the Arkansas Affiliate of the Susan G Komen Foundation to attend their Annual Mission Conference in Washington, D.C. along with the other nurse I work with - Dee. I was very honored to be able to go. They bring together leading researchers, medical oncologists, reknowned pathologists, and leading political figures all to work towards accomplishing one goal - a world without breast cancer. Although this was my second time to attend this conference in Washington - the city still did not disappoint! There was still a lot to do and see that we didn't see before. In addition to being able to visit the White House and Arlington Cemetery for the first time, we were able to return to the National mall (Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, etc.). Arlington Cemetery especially touched me. I have included a couple of videos that I took with my regular camera (forgive the poor quality) of the Changing of the Guard ceremony at the tomb of the unknown soldier. It all definitely made you stop and realize the enormous sacrifice that so many have made for our freedom.
We also had a bit of adventure while we were there. It seems there were several freak fire/smoke incidents with the city's underground metro system....both of which left us stranded in unfamiliar parts of Washington..... but that is a whole different story! Hope you enjoy the pics!
