We ventured down to Louisiana for Christmas the weekend before the actual holiday, this year. It was a great time. We celebrated some of the usual traditions, as well as, trying some new ones. We had dinner and presents with my mom's side of the family and the all important family portrait followed up by cards and games. Most of the grown ups played cards (Rook) while the kids and a few other adults stayed in the bedroom for some heated games of Uno, Slapjack, and Spoons. What a great time! My immediate family chose to change things up this year. Mom made homemade bisuits while everyone else chipped in on the bacon, eggs, sausage, breakfast pork chops, etc. fixin's. What a great idea!! Everyone ate all they wanted and was not rushed to get anywhere. We opened presents and visited without worrying about time or getting kids to bed - we had all day, if we wanted it!! Looking back, it means even more. My Dad was a big fan of breakfast often cooking for the whole family lots of Saturdays...especially the ones when we visited. In fact, Marti's first official visit and introduction to the family was at an early morning breakfast...still in her pajamas! So, breakfast was a special way to remember him and still begin a new tradition for our family.
Christmas celebration turned into game night...how FUN!
Here's your sign!
4 little monkeys clowning all around!
The traditional family portrait...the WHOLE family!
